King and Clever parrot (राजा और चालाक तोता)

एक राजा के महल के बगीचे में एक आम का पेड़ था। उस पेड़ पर एक तोता रहता था। एक दिन तोते को कहीं से एक सोने की अशर्फी मिल गई। तोते ने सोचा कि इसका कोई उपयोग नहीं है, इसलिए वह अशर्फी लेकर राजा के पास गया और उसे दे दी। तोते को उम्मीद थी कि राजा उसका शुक्रिया अदा करेगा, लेकिन राजा ने उससे कुछ नहीं कहा।

बाद में राजा अपनी सभा में गया और वहाँ सभासदों को अशर्फी दिखाते हुए कहा, “यह देखो, मेरे पास कितनी सुंदर और कीमती अशर्फी है!” एक सभासद ने पूछा, “यह आपको कहाँ से मिली?” राजा ने झूठ बोलते हुए कहा, “यह मेरे पुरखों के समय से मेरे पास है।”

जब तोते को यह पता चला तो उसे बहुत गुस्सा आया। वह राजा के पास गया और झूठ बोलने का कारण पूछा। राजा ने कहा, “अगर मैं सच कहता कि तुमने यह अशर्फी दी है तो लोग मुझ पर हँसते।” तोते ने कहा, “लेकिन सच तो यही है। व्यक्ति अपने कर्म से बड़ा होता है, जाति से नहीं।”

राजा ने अकड़ते हुए कहा, “जो मैं कहूँगा, वही सच माना जाएगा।” तोते ने जवाब दिया, “मैं सबको सच बता दूँगा।”

तोता पेड़ की सबसे ऊँची टहनी पर बैठ गया और ज़ोर-ज़ोर से गाने लगा-
“बात सुनो सब करके गौर, राजा निकला पक्का चोर! उसने एक अशर्फी पाई, जो तोते ने उसे दिलाई। राजा अब कहता है ‘अपनी’, जो है एकदम चीज़ पराई!”

राजा के नौकरों ने यह सुना और राजा को बताया। राजा ने नौकरों को तोते को मारने का आदेश दिया। नौकर पेड़ के नीचे आए, लेकिन तोता ऊँची डाल पर बैठा इधर-उधर फुदक रहा था। उसने और ज़ोर से गाना शुरू कर दिया। तब राजा खुद ढाल-तलवार लेकर आया, लेकिन वह भी तोते तक नहीं पहुँच सका।

तब नौकरों ने राजा को गुलेल इस्तेमाल करने की सलाह दी। राजा ने गुलेल उठाई और निशाना साधा। जैसे ही उसने गुलेल चलाई, तोता फुदककर दूसरी डाल पर जा बैठा। कंकड़ डाल से टकराकर पलटा और सीधे राजा को जा लगा।

इस तरह छोटे से तोते ने राजा को उसके झूठ का मजेदार जवाब दे दिया। सच्चाई हमेशा सामने आकर रहती है, चाहे सच बोलने वाला कितना ही छोटा क्यों न हो।

There was a mango tree in the garden of a king’s palace. A parrot lived on that tree. One day, the parrot found a gold coin (ashrafi) somewhere. The parrot thought that it had no use for it, so it took the coin and went to the king and gave it to him. The parrot hoped that the king would thank him, but the king said nothing to him.

Later, the king went to his court and showing the coin to the ministers, said, “Look, what a beautiful and precious coin I have!” A minister asked, “Where did you get it?” The king lied and said, “I have had it since the time of my ancestors.”

When the parrot came to know about this, it became very angry. It went to the king and asked him the reason for lying. The king said, “If I told the truth that you gave me this coin, people would laugh at me.” The parrot said, “But that is the truth. A person becomes great by his actions, not by his caste.”

The king said arrogantly, “Whatever I say will be considered the truth.” The parrot replied, “I will tell everyone the truth.”

The parrot sat on the highest branch of the tree and started singing loudly-
“Listen everyone, pay heed, the king is a proven thief! He got a gold coin, which the parrot gave him. The king now calls it ‘mine’, which is absolutely someone else’s thing!”

The king’s servants heard this and told the king. The king ordered the servants to kill the parrot. The servants came under the tree, but the parrot was sitting on a high branch, hopping here and there. It started singing even louder. Then the king himself came with a shield and sword, but even he could not reach the parrot.

Then the servants advised the king to use a slingshot. The king picked up the slingshot and took aim. As soon as he fired the slingshot, the parrot hopped onto another branch. The pebble bounced off the branch and hit the king directly.

This is how the tiny parrot gave a fitting reply to the king for his lie. The truth always comes out, no matter how small the person telling the truth may be.
