Long ago, a spirited boy named Max adored dressing up in his wolf outfit. One night, after stirring up chaos at home—teasing the dog and causing a ruckus—his mother scolded him, calling him a “wild thing.” Hurt and feeling unseen, Max made up his mind to leave.
He set off in a tiny boat, sailing over the vast ocean until the familiar faded behind him. After a long journey, he reached an island inhabited by the wild things. Giant beasts with gleaming eyes and razor-sharp claws loomed before him. Though they looked fearsome, they were intrigued by the small boy standing before them.
When the creatures hissed and growled, Max puffed out his chest and boomed, “Quiet down! I am your king!” To his amazement, instead of challenging him, they cheered and placed a crown upon his head. The wild things leaped and howled, thrilled to have a ruler at last.

As their king, Max led them on thrilling escapades—racing through jungles, scaling cliffs, and discovering hidden corners of their wild kingdom. For the first time, Max felt unstoppable, free to do as he pleased.
Yet, as the days turned into nights, a quiet loneliness settled in his heart. No matter how much fun he had, he longed for the comfort of his own room and the warmth of his mother’s embrace. Gazing at the stars one evening, surrounded by his wild subjects, he understood that being king wasn’t enough.
“I need to go home,” he murmured. The wild things sensed his sadness but couldn’t grasp why he would ever want to leave.

With a heavy heart, Max announced his departure. Though they were saddened, they accepted his decision. “I’ll come back someday,” he assured them as they gathered for a final, joyful farewell.
Max boarded his little boat once more and sailed across the sea. The closer he got to home, the lighter his heart felt. When he finally stepped inside, he was met with a wonderful surprise—his supper, still warm, waiting for him on the table. His mother, though she had feared he was gone forever, had kept it ready, just in case.
As Max nestled into bed, a profound sense of happiness enveloped him. He realized that no adventure, no matter how grand, could compare to the love and belonging he found at home.
Moral of the Story:
“Love makes a house a home.” This story reminds us that while the world is full of excitement and discovery, true happiness lies in the place where we are cherished most.
